What is a hobby? A hobby, simply put, is an activity done with joy. Something you choose to do that brings you happiness. I think hobbies can be hard for people to start because of self doubt or judgement. Let's take for example painting. You do not have to be a Picasso to paint! I always suggest grabbing your supplies, whatever they may be, and going straight in with no expectation. In fact, no brushes, yes use your fingers! Smear the paint, try water color, grab a straw and blow the watery paint around! Practicing these kinds of things, play or a hobby can release dopamine, that feel good chemical found in the hypothalamus in your brain. You can't mess up play! Tap into your inner child and create joy and happiness!
A few suggestions I can give are coloring, dancing, bike riding, roller skating, crocheting, knitting, drawing, bowling, play and instrument, darts, hula hooping, bingo, hiking, cross-stitching, cooking, baking... the list goes on.
I have often seen and even attended social events at local libraries and community centers to try various crafts.
So go ahead, get out there and try something new without judgement and see if it sparks a little joy!
I, myself, enjoy many hobbies. Some of my hobbies I do in various seasons. Crocheting is something I started when I was 38 years old. I won't lie, I wasn't that great when I started but I stuck to it and now I can practically create a wardrobe!
Whatever you choose to do, do it with good intent, speak kindly to yourself and don't give up.
